What is a remedial massage? Deriving from the word remedy, a remedial massage is the treatment and manipulation of dysfunctional muscles or soft tissue. Techniques are employed to ease muscle pain, help repair damaged tissue and improve the overall wellness of the body. At Massology, remedial massages are offered in 60, 90 or 120 minute duration and therapy can include "cupping" to assist the healing process.
Sports massage is specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries. It is not a relaxing form of massage and can often be quite strenuous. It works by stretching tight muscles, stimulating inactive muscles and improving the condition of the soft tissue. A sports massage is a focused massage technique that targets specific regions of the body in need of rehabilitation or repair instead of as a full-body massage.
Pregnancy or prenatal massage is used to reduce stress, reduce swelling in the arms and legs and relieve muscle and joint pain in pregnant women. Massage in pregnancy can involve many different massage techniques. It is usually a gentle massage.Your therapist will avoid deep tissue massage here and instead use light, relaxing and long strokes which help circulation. If you would like your therapist to massage your pregnant belly, this is possible, but it will again be gentle, using long strokes, designed to make you feel comfortable and at ease.
At Massology, the Lymphatic Drainage Massage has become a popular form of massage due to its potential health benefits. This specialised approach focuses on the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system. This type of massage aims to help the body maintain proper blood circulation, body fluid balance, and immune functions. During the massage, your therapist will focus on areas that house your main lymph nodes, such as your armpits, groin, and neck. Your therapist will use very light pressure and long strokes to move the lymph fluid in a way that the organs will be able to effectively eliminate the toxins.
This massage style (also known as a Swedish or Relaxation Massage) aids with your mental and emotional health, as it calms the mind and settles the nervous system. Relaxation massage provides a general loosen up, encourages blood flow throughout the body, and helps boost the immune system by stimulating the lymphatics. This technique consists of long, rhythmic strokes and small circular movements which help to break down adhesions and promote better circulation. Unlike deep tissue massages, a relaxation massage does not address the connective tissue of the muscles.
A Deep tissue massage targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body's surface. Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain. This treatment applies much more pressure to release tension deep within the muscles and fascia.
Cupping is an ancient healing therapy that some people use to ease pain. Your therapist places cups on your back, arms, legs or other parts of your body. Inside the cup, a vacuum or suction force pulls skin upward. Cupping is a form of traditional Chinese and Middle Eastern medicine. NB: there is a small surcharge for the cupping process.
Temporomandibular (TMJ/TMD) Massage
Temporomandibular joint disorder, also known as TMD or TMJ, has become more prevalent as the workplace, economy, and living demands become more intense. Stress-related clenching and grinding are at an all-time high, resulting in painful and misaligned jaw joints, a set of conditions referred to as the umbrella term of TMD. With this prevalence, TMJ massages have become a more popular form of TMD treatment at Massology Remedial Massage. There is no additional cost for this treatment.
